Four Laurel Upper School Students Featured on Spectrum 1 News

History Department Chair Elen Roberts and Tristan Williams ‘25, Cecilia Doherty ‘26, Faye Moledina ‘25, and Ivey Williams ‘25 were recently featured in a Spectrum News story about the opportunities Laurel is providing young voters to educate them about the election process and voter registration.

The story highlights Laurel’s Election Committee, which was launched by three teachers, including Ms. Roberts, and the various ways Laurel is working to create a safe space for non-partisan discussion and education about the election process. Cecilia said the committee was started to “make sure conversations about the election are respectful and covering all perspectives, trying to be non-partisan and helping students find their own identity.”

The committee helps students think about ‘What sources are you looking at?’ When you’re engaging in challenging conversations, when you’re challenging and bringing up new ideas — where are you getting that information and how can you back up those arguments,” commented Ms. Roberts.
