What the Fitness Center has to offer…
Fitness for Everyone
The Alice Lehmann Butler ’49 Center for Fitness and Wellness is open to all students in Seventh through Twelfth Grade, as well as alumnae, faculty, staff and parents. This state-of-the-art facility offers strength training, circuit work, cardiovascular training and other types of fitness programs to help individuals find and commit to a workout routine that will motivate them to accomplish their personal fitness goals during their time at Laurel and for the rest of their lives.
Knowledge and Education
It is important for Laurel students and all users of the Butler Center to have a basic understanding of proper technique, anatomy, physiology, and nutrition. Whether our Fitness Center trainers and athletic staff are holding a sports camp, speed and agility clinic, running a group exercise program or helping with personal training, they are teaching the importance of making wellness a cornerstone in one’s life.
Athletic Advantage
Research shows that girls who participate in athletics have higher levels of confidence and self-esteem. Laurel is one of the few schools in the area with a full-time strength coach, two full-time athletic trainers and a part-time strength coach, all of whom are committed to long-term development with workouts specific to each athlete’s individual needs, weaknesses and strengths. Our Upper School athletes and coaches utilize the Fitness Center for off-season and in-season training. Middle School athletes are encouraged to start training in the Fitness Center to see steady, long-term development and to learn how to prevent injuries—injury prevention is a priority in every workout and practice. Our goal is to help our athletes prepare for vigorous sports seasons and remain healthy.
