Laurel’s Speech and Debate Team Announces Five National Qualifiers

Congratulations to Ella Witalec '25, who had an incredible finish as a Semifinalist at the Harvard National Speech and Debate Tournament, one of the most competitive tournaments of the year nationwide! 
The Speech and Debate team also secured four more national qualifiers who will compete at the National Speech and Debate Tournament in June with Ella! Congrats to Izanec '25, Julia Duong '26, Ana Rubio-Calvillo '27, and Hannah Rosenfeld '27! In addition, McKenna Caver '26 is the 2nd alternate to Nationals in Dramatic Interpretation and Claire Sheeler '25 is the 4th alternate in United States Extemp.

Speech and Debate also took on the Novice State Tournament on February 22 where many of Laurel’s newest members competed in their final tournament of the season. Congratulations to Shaashwatiyaa Balamurugan ‘28 for finishing as a semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, and to Taryn Goedecke ‘28 for placing 6th in Declamation.
