Dan Dvorak Included in Plain Dealer Story about Youth Sports and Dealing with Disappointment

Dan Dvorak, director of strength and conditioning at Laurel, provided some valuable insight in an August Plain Dealer story about how parents can talk to their kids when it comes to the ups and downs of youth sports.
The article highlights many dos and don’ts when it comes to parenting and athletics. For instance, focus on setting realistic goals with their kids when it comes to sports, and focus on what is best for your family versus what most of the kids are doing. Dan said that “You don’t need to do something just because everyone else is. Do not be afraid to take a break and make your own decision. Especially if it is in the best interest of yourself or your child.”

Dan also talks about not pushing kids to specialize in any one sport. “They can do other physical activities for fun, such as hiking, rock climbing, riding bikes or yoga. Physical activity has a profound effect on health and wellness; it does not have to be a competition … the more variety the better.”
