Implicit in the school's mission statement is the expectation that each student take an active role in serving the community outside of Laurel School. To this end, she will complete a minimum of 50 hours of service learning as a requirement for graduation from the Upper School. On average, however, students spend 60+ hours serving their community during their four years in the Upper School.

Students have their service learning commitment approved by the Director of Service Learning before beginning any project and all hours are completed before September of her senior year.

Laurel students and parents collected trash
and tires as part of RiverSweep, Ohio Canal Corridor's annual, environmental awareness and clean-up initiative along the Cuyahoga River.

Laurel's commitment to service learning is also reflected in our global studies program, PASSPORT, which is unique among global studies programs in that it emphasizes cultural learning and service learning side-by-side.
